When I was a child we lived in a huge house that had a massive fireplace. My mother was a great interior decorator so after 6 months of a major remodel of the home it was like living in a palace. Everything was so elegant and beautiful. That one was my favorite and I still miss it.

By the fireplace was a formal sitting area where guests would come and talk to my parents. I used to love sitting there with a good book and listening to the crackle of the fire. It’s not one of the main pieces of furniture anymore, it kind of got demoted, but it’s still in use and still makes a room look two steps up from casual.
