Thoughts on Southern California Vacations

There is no shortage of lodging facilities in Southern California, a premium vacation destination.  Some travelers are on business trips and are looking for mid-price hotels with easy access to the local freeways and airports.

This discussion pertains mainly to travelers on a vacation, where the expected price range and level of service at hotels can vary extensively.  Regardless of the purpose of the trip though, we can recommend a useful website that will steer you to great hotel deals.  The website puts you in touch with not only good hotel deals, but also provides other useful information for travelers.  The site is handy in that airline flight information and reservations are also presented.

For additional information and tips about hotels in Southern California visit the Southern California Vacation Guru website.  It does not specialize only in lodging options but also covers other aspects of a trip to Southern Calfornia, discussing Disneyland, Universal Studios, beaches, etc.  You will find a wealth of local advice and information to enhance your vacation stay.

For a more broad-based travel-oriented website, consider taking a look at the Travel Talk blog.  Here you will see input related to the whole range of subjects related to travel.  Travel Talk might have an entry on international travel one day, followed by information on environmentally sensitive vacation trips the next day.

Do you have anyone in your family who’s hard to buy for?

The holidays are fast approaching which means gift buying time again. I like shopping for gifts, puting them in gift bags and dishing them out at family gatherings. As a kid the holidays were all about gifts for me, now I much prefer to give rather than receive. The more creative the better, unfortunately I’m not very good at being creative with gifts. Some members of the family are just hard to buy for.

Admittedly this is not the perfect solution, but it does get the creative juices flowing and makes the task a bit easier.

I like to browse through the Amazon wishlists and Listmania at Amazon. This is probably an little thought of resource for many, but it’s actually quite the goldmine of information. If you can find a list related to a product your mother-in-law already has, and that list includes all the necessary accessory “must-haves” that go with it, then you now have a premade list of possible things you can buy her as a gift.

Think about how helpful that is. Print the list and secretly try to figure out which accessory item she either already has or may not need. Cross those off. What’s left are ripe for the buying.

For instance, I search professional garment steamer in listmania and get back several lists that relate to caring for clothes. Now I have an instant set of products I probably never would have thought of that I could by someone who either has or wants this product.

Give it a try. You’ll be amazed at the results.

Chrome Accessories: Shine on Me!

It is no secret that the USA experienced a Baby Boom. It coincided with a roaring economy and spurred a desire to live life to its fullest after years of worry and fear.

Like the surging economy the car industry’s tide was exceptionally high. Manufacturers added manufacturing as fast they could to meet this new demand from post-war consumers and a growing middle class. As the number of new drivers increased, competition for their business picked up. To feed this desire for new designs technology and style were merged – a sign of customers’ changing tastes and hunger for status.

The dominant style of the 50s was chrome with some more chrome thrown in. Chrome showed up in grills that the blind could see coming, bold tail-fins as well as chrome center caps and hubs, the demand for this shiny metal seemed insatiable. The more, the better.

This fascination with the shine and sparkle of chrome is alive and kicking with today’s car enthusiasts. And why shouldn’t they be? With resistance to corrosion, the ability to tint it and a strong visual appeal – sorta like diamonds, sparkles and blinking lights… just more manly.

Using electroplating almost every car part can be covered with chrome. Aftermarket rims and rim center caps are popular ways to step up the looks of your car, too.

This chrome plating can be applied at various thicknesses, so look at the specs to get an impression of what wear resistance one can reasonably expect. If it’s not specified, ask the dealer. Even better is to contact the manufacturer. Do your due diligence before you spend your money. No one wants to experience “rim remorse” – especially after spending a week or two of paychecks.

With the help of a good website, finding parts can be done by either the manufacturer’s part number or the Hollander id. You also can take advantage of locator services to find the chrome lug nuts, chrome wheel center cap sets, chrome rims or any other chrome part that can take your car from stock to stoked!

The Best Carpet Cleaning Business Plan

A carpet cleaning business plan can be a first step to profit in the cleaning business. Carpet cleaning can be a very profitable home business if you have a good business plan. Your overall financial investment is relatively small if you follow a good carpet cleaning business plan. The worse thing a new business owner can do is seeking advice from equipment retailerswhen buying cleaning tools and equipment. They will be more then happy to sell you the most expensive products they carry since they all work on commission.

A much smarter way to proceed is to carefully study the carpet cleaning business and decide upon the type of carpet cleaning you would like to perform. If careful, you can purchase only the tools you will actually use and you will be able to locate the best sources of all your cleaning tools. In the past few years, floor care equipment has improved greatly. The key to being profitable is knowing what equipment is necessary and what is a waste of time and money. You can either spend hundreds of hours researching all this on your own or locate someone you can trust who has been successful in the business and seek their advice. Your goal should be to find a carpet cleaning business plan to guide you through the decision making process.

The profitable carpet cleaner must learn to do good quality work and not just fast work. I’ve seen many franchise owners brag about how many jobs they complete in a day. But the goal is to be profitable and not just busy. In many cases these are the same guys who never get called back for another job. Use the wrong cleaning techniques and you might be fast but you might find the customer calls another carpet cleaner next month when those stains and spots return. This is one business where you can really be successful if you focus on the trade of cleaning.

The internet can be a great source of help with researching the carpet cleaning business opportunity. There are many good web sites for learning about the different styles of carpet cleaning as well as many places where the very best floor care equipment can be purchased at reasonable prices. But to be profitable and successful, use a good carpet cleaning business plan to save time and money.

Sitting by the fireplace

When I was a child we lived in a huge house that had a massive fireplace. My mother was a great interior decorator so after 6 months of a major remodel of the home it was like living in a palace. Everything was so elegant and beautiful. That one was my favorite and I still miss it.

By the fireplace was a formal sitting area where guests would come and talk to my parents. I used to love sitting there with a good book and listening to the crackle of the fire. It was warm, homey and I felt safe. My favorite places to sit were the big comfy couch and the formal wing chair. For some reason that wing chair just made the room. I never sat in it right, I was always swinging my leg over it and slouching my body in weird and more comfortable positions. But it was nice.

That chair has now seen better days thanks to years of abuse and instead of getting rid of it, the thing has been nicely recovered in a slipcover. It’s not one of the main pieces of furniture anymore, it kind of got demoted, but it’s still in use and still makes a room look two steps up from casual.
